da imperador bet: According to the Daily Mirror, Jose Mourinho is keen to add Samuel Umtiti to his Manchester United squad this January.
What’s the Story?
da prosport bet: After giving up on his pursuit to land Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho is looking at another French defender to join Manchester United this January. The man who is attracting the interest of the Portuguese manager is Samuel Umtiti, who is currently plying his trade at Barcelona.
With new signing at Old Trafford Victor Lindelof failing to impress thus far and Luke Shaw clearly out of Mourinho’s thoughts for selection, United need to strengthen at the back.
Umtiti, who is valued at £27million by Transfermarkt, reportedly has a £53million buyout clause in his Barcelona contract, a sum that Mourinho deems affordable.
Should Manchester United sign Umtiti?
It took a little while for the 23-year-old Frenchman to establish himself at Barcelona. However, he is now a mainstay of the side and has already played over 50 games for the Catalan club since signing in the summer of 2016.
A perfect modern centre-half, Umtiti is quick, astute with ball at his feet and very intelligent. A partnership with current United defender Eric Bailly would be truly intimidating and would offer a solid foundation for Mourinho’s team to work from.
Signing a player like Umtiti would also be beneficial for Manchester United due to the fact that he can play at left-back as well as centre-half. Given that the aforementioned Luke Shaw looks likely to move on, the club need some competition in that area of the field and Umtiti would certainly provide that.
