Paul Pogba has confirmed that he rejected the chance to join Real Madrid in favour of returning to Manchester United in the summer of 2016.
Pogba sealed a return to United ahead of the 2016-17 campaign after the Red Devils paid Juventus £89m for his services.
The midfielder initially left Old Trafford in 2012 after becoming frustrated with his lack of opportunities under Sir Alex Ferguson. After a successful spell at Juventus, Pogba re-joined the 20-time English champions.
Pogba, who is valued at £67.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, has revealed that Real Madrid also wanted to sign him during the same summer, but the Frenchman was set on a return to United.
Pogba told Beyond the Pitch:
“To be honest, Real Madrid came to me and I was thinking to go there, and I was thinking to go to Manchester United too.
“But I always felt it in my heart. My heart told me to come back here [Manchester], I don’t know why, I didn’t know what was going to happen. But I did it, and I don’t regret. I never regret my choice.”
Pogba scored nine times in 51 appearances for United last season as the Red Devils landed the Community Shield, League Cup and Europa League.
The France international has also been in impressive form during the 2017-18 campaign, although he is currently on the sidelines through suspension.
