da pinup bet: Arsenal had a frustrating final few days of the transfer window, with the silver lining being that they managed to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez.
da supremo: On deadline day, though, the North London outfit failed to bring in Monaco star Thomas Lemar and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected a new contract in order to sign for Liverpool.
It is also worth noting that a handful of the Gunners’ first-team stars, including Mesut Ozil and Sanchez, have not signed new deals, despite months of negotiations.
Despite all of this, Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has deemed the club’s transfer window as a success.
In an email, the 52-year-old wrote:
“At the end of the window, reviewing all activity, we have once again improved the depth and quality of the squad.”
In fairness to Arsenal, they jumped out of the blocks with regards to bringing in new players at the start of the summer.
Sead Kolasinac joined from Schalke, while the club smashed their transfer record by recruiting £52m Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.
However, the activity soon dwindled, and it seemed as though the club were more concerned with getting rid of the deadwood before bringing in any new faces.
In addition, the team have picked up just three points from a possible nine so far in the Premier League, frustrating the fans to no end.
With that in mind, it is not a surprise that a lot of supporters did not angry with Gazidis’s assessment.
