Celtic are reportedly keen admirers of Everton’s Anthony Gordon and, according to The Athletic, they wanted to take him on loan for the rest of the ongoing campaign.
Their boss, Neil Lennon, is supposedly a big fan and has already had scouts at several of Everton’s U23 games to monitor his progress.
However, his hopes were quickly dashed by Carlo Ancelotti who, according to the same source, intends to give Liverpool-born Gordon more minutes for the Toffees’ senior team in the foreseeable future and feels his progress is best served staying put.

Here’s what The Athletic’s update stated in full:
“Everton have turned down a request by Celtic to loan their highly-rated teenage midfielder Anthony Gordon for the rest of the season. Celtic boss Neil Lennon has had a long-standing interest in Gordon, and has had scouts at several of Everton’s U-23 games last year to monitor him. But Carlo Ancelotti intends to give Liverpool-born Gordon further minutes for the Everton first team during the rest of the campaign, and feels his progress is best served remaining with the squad.”
The 18-year-old teenage prospect has already made 27 appearances for Everton’s U23 squad, netting a total of eight goals and assisting four in the process.
He was equally successful for their U18 side, banging in 16 goals and five assists in 31 games played.
So far, he’s only played 45 minutes in the Premier League but if Ancelotti’s stance is anything to go by, he seems to believe Gordon definitely has a future at Goodison Park.
And that is certainly bad news for Lennon.
