Everton legend Neville Southall expressed his disappointment with the club’s leadership on Wednesday, and fans are heaping praise on their former hero.Last summer, Everton “did a Liverpool†in the transfer window. When the Reds sold Luis Suarez, they replaced him with several below par players, instead of splashing the cash on two or three truly high quality players. The Toffees did almost the exact same thing, spending the money received from selling Romelu Lukaku on several average players, rather than breaking the bank for a direct replacement for the big Belgian. The blue half of Merseyside had to look on in horror while Liverpool made the Champions League final on Wednesday night, and Southall’s tweet said exactly what all the fans were thinking.
The Welshman made nearly 600 league appearances for the Toffees, and is clearly annoyed by their lack of ambition in the transfer market.
If Everton truly want to compete with the best on the pitch, they have to compete with them in the transfer market, and last summer’s massive influx of players certainly didn’t do the trick.
