In the summer, many Liverpool fans would have thought that Philippe Coutinho was on his way to Barcelona.
The Spanish giants pursued the Brazilian playmaker, but after numerous bids, they were unsuccessful.
Liverpool were in a strong position to reject Barcelona given the fact that Coutinho had signed a new deal at the start of the year and a release clause was not included.
Despite the Reds’ ability to keep hold of their star player, rumours continue to rumble about the 25-year-old’s future at Anfield.
History has shown that Barcelona get their targets in the end, and with the transfer window due to open in two months’ time, there may be some nervous fans around Merseyside.
In a recent interview with Goal.com, Coutinho spoke of how he has grown as a player and a person during his four-year spell at Liverpool.
“I have never wanted to settle, because I know that improvement is something that doesn’t stop. There are always new things you can pick up and many ways to develop. I’m happy with how much I’ve grown, but I’m not finished yet.”
The Brazilian’s quote can be interpreted in various ways, but some fans believe that his development will continue elsewhere.
