The voices of dissent against Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reached their loudest volume yet after the Red Devils’ embarrassing Champions League exit at the hands of Sevilla on Tuesday.
Mourinho has been criticised for his transfer dealings, style of play, cautious ideology, egotistical self-preservation measures and other issues too. It felt like something over a watershed result.
In the wake of the match, United released quotes from Scott McTominay, the latest prospect to break into the first team at Old Trafford, in which he was full of praise for his manager.
The emergence of the midfielder, who is valued at £900k by Transfermarkt and has recently been called up by Scotland, is a plus point for United but their fans seemed to have something else in mind when responding to the tweet.
They thought that the timing of the interview’s release was an attempt by the club to recover some good PR and it wouldn’t wash with them. They want Mourinho dismissed.
