It was Emre Can who broke the deadlock against Huddersfield in midweek, the Liverpool midfielder’s cleanly-struck shot taking a slight deflection to provide the first goal in a 3-0 win at the John Smith’s Stadium.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean the German international is the right man to start at Anfield this Sunday when Tottenham travel to Merseyside. In addition to the fact Mauricio Pochettino’s side are a substantially higher calibre of opponent, Jurgen Klopp has a wealth of midfield options at his disposal this term – not least including summer signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The 30-cap international was exceptional in the 4-3 win over Manchester City and with Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum seeming certainties for the defensive midfield and left central midfield slots respectively, we asked Liverpool fans earlier this week whether Can or Oxlade-Chamberlain should fill the final engine room position this weekend.
And according to our poll, 61% of Liverpool supporters would prefer to see Oxlade-Chamberlain start against Spurs. How would you line up Klopp’s side on Sunday? Let us know by commenting below…
